My Newest Love – Spa Water!

At this point I think we can all agree that drinking water should be an essential part of your daily routine.  I don’t think anyone would argue with that.  And although I’ve known this for many years that doesn’t mean I’m good at consuming the amount of water I should daily.  In fact, there are days when I barely drink 50% of what is required for my body.  Note – the general rule of thumb is that you should be consuming half of your body weight in ounces of water daily (so if weight 150lbs, you should be drinking 75 ounces or just over 9 cups). I’ve tried all the little tricks to get to me drink more h2o…cute little apps, post it notes, phone alarms…nothing’s stuck.  Spending much more time at home during this whole quarantine thing though got me hooked on my newest love – Spa Water!  And let’s just say that this new love is not only tasty and good for you but has also majorly upped my water intake game!  Here are some of my favorite combos.

Note – I don’t measure any of these ingredients.  I have a 64 ounce glass jar with a lid that I use and it’s the perfect amount for me to get through in one day.  I drink other forms of water like my morning hot lemon water, tea, and sparkling mineral water throughout the day in addition to my one big batch of spa water. I grab a handful of each ingredient, muddle any herbs I may use, then top it with filtered water.  I let it sit out on my counter because I prefer room temperature water but feel free to put it in the fridge.  Keeping it on the counter does help remind me to drink more though…that whole out of sight out of mind thing would probably happen if I stored mine in the fridge.  But you do you!

Strawberry + Lemon + Basil (or Mint)

Ok this is by far my most favorite combo.  I always halve or quarter my strawberries because I like to think that this makes it easier for the water to infuse…but I could just be making that up.  It’s currently strawberry season so right now the strawberries are red all the way through and all that yumminess turns the water the prettiest pink!  Adding the lemon makes this taste like a very light strawberry lemonade and it’s a perfect summer drink.  I like to add some basil (or mint) for good measure just to round out the flavors but you could totally leave it out!

Ginger + Lime

Another great combo.  I just peel an inch or two of ginger and slice it thin.  I try to muddle it a bit to get the juices going.  Add some slices of lime and you have a great water.  The spice from the ginger is a perfect friend to the tartness of the lime.

Watermelon + Mint

A classic combination and so refreshing.  Watermelon is mostly water to begin with so sometimes I actually like to blend my watermelon and add it to the filtered water.  Makes it extra special.  But even if you don’t want the extra step, just muddling some fresh mint and adding the watermelon to filtered water makes a cooling drink.  Another great summer water!

Cucumber + Mint

You see this combo at a lot of physical spas and the reason why is because they are a perfect pair!  The cucumber is usually very mild and just adds a hint of flavor.  Muddling some mint adds a nice cool touch to the water.  An old school classic for a reason.
